You don't need a DSLR to take stunning photos! In today's world, phone cameras have become a staple for everyone...even the most professional photographers. In this 3 hour workshop we cover differences between DSLRs & smartphones, important camera features to take advantage of, common issues with phone photography, and popular camera & editing apps.  iPhone and Android, phones and tablets are all welcome (alright...Windows can come too).

Light is the foundation of photography...without light, there would be no picture. In this three-week class, students learn to understand how cameras see light in comparison to how our human eyes see it and will practice controlling that light by using the settings in the camera to emphasize highlights and shadows and bring photos to life. Students study black and white photography to fully visualize the way light affects photos to create beautiful images with striking tones.

During the beginning weeks, we will spend time studying good bodies of work and developing an idea for a series.  Then we'll move into shooting, critiquing, and discussing presentation.  Finally we'll have a gallery show to present your work!  At the end of the 6 weeks you will feel more confident in your ability to communicate visually through your photographs, and you will have a solid body of work for your professional portfolio!

This follow up to Fundamentals is a must as a building block to getting the basics under your belt. Once you understand your camera settings, it is important to start thinking about the conceptual side of photography. Composition & Meaning will help you understand how to get your photos to say what you want them to say, so you can be confident and intentional with how your photos communicate. The photos we take usually aren't for us to look at, therefore, we as photographers should always be thinking about what our photos are communicating to our viewers.
